Engineering

As a structural engineer, I have always had a fascination for tall buildings, bridges, sports stadiums, and innovative buildings. Really I have a fascination with the ability of mankind to create mammoth and seemingly impossible "works of art". Here are a few of my favorites, along with some more sites and videos with more information on the structures and developments. There are many more projects out there, and I always appreciate news or updates about new amazing engineering projects.

Burj Khalifa, Dubai, UAE

Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, TX

The new Dallas Cowboys Stadium, designed by HKS

The Palm Trilogy, Dubai, UAE

This is by far one of my favorite structures, probably because it has broken so many records and the design of the building is so innovative. The website for the tower, shown in the links below, goes into more detail about the design and construction of the tower and the area surrounding the tower. Definitely a very impressive building!

This structure is simply fascinating, and the design of the main structural elements is really intriguing. The size of the building is very impressive, along with the fact that the roof is supported on two massive single-span trusses. The roof is retractable and on a curved slope, and the glass doors near both endzones are also retractable. Below are some more links with more info on the building and its design.

This is an amazing achievement simply because it is a series of man-made islands that from the air look exactly like palm trees. There is even another set of islands that is made to look like a map of the world! The process of making these islands and building on them is fascinating, and I have attached some links with more information on the islands themselves and the process by which they were made.
