Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to travel to a variety of different countries and experience the culture and wonderful sites that they have to offer. It was great to be able to see and experience first-hand the way things operate and people behave in countries other than the U.S., and the opportunities have given me a unique perspective that I would not have been able to develop otherwise. Below are some of the highlights from the trips I have taken recently, accompanied by a few pictures. For a more complete portfolio of pictures from the trips, please visit the Photo Album. St. Andrews, ScotlandIn September, 2010, I traveled to the home of golf to study for three months at the same university as Prince William. In fact, I actually lived in the residence hall where Prince William lived when he studied at the university. The semester provided a wonderful opportunity to live in a different culture for an extended length of time, which was very eye-opening. It was also a great chance to be able to travel to different countries in Europe, since the flights between countries in Europe are actually very cheap. One of the biggest highlights of the trip was being able to play golf on the Old Course and all of the courses in the St. Andrews Links Trust. I was fortunate enough to be able to get a student membership which allowed me to play any of the courses whenever they were open, so naturally I wanted to play the Old Course as often as possible. It was incredible to play the same course as the greats like Jack Nicklaus, Old Tom Morris, Tom Watson, and Arnold Palmer. In a bit of trouble in the Road Hole Bunker on the Old Course. Munich, GermanySt. Andrews had a week long Fall break, during which a couple of friends and I made a trip to Munich, Germany and Paris, France. I had never been to Europe, so the experience was truly incredible. The first stop on the trip was Munich, which was a very interesting city. I also did not know any German, so trying to communicate was another challenge that was pretty fun to try to tackle. We took a couple tours of the city, and took a day trip to Dachau. That was a very solemn experience, and one I will never forget. I had heard and read many things about the Holocaust, but to see where it actually took place was another thing altogether.A shot of Marienplatz in Munich. Paris, FranceAs the second leg of the week long trip around Europe, we went to Paris. We made sure to visit all the sites in the city, including the Louvre, Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, and the Arc du Triomphe. Being able to see the structural engineering marvel that is the Eiffel Tower was truly incredible, as was visiting the incredible Palace at Versailles. We even were able to make it to the Museum of Modern Art. We had a lot of fun, and I'd love to be able to go back and experience it all again. In front of the iconic glass pyramid at the Louvre. |
